Hiking Tour: “Bahnwanderweg Breitenstein – Semmering”

Short variant of the Bahnwanderweg along the rail track from Breitenstein to Semmering

The tour starts at the train station Breitenstein and first descends downwards into the Adlitzgraben following the marked hiking trail. The tour then follows the street L136 westwards towards and through the Kalte Rinne viaduct. The tour then turns left and follows the hiking trail along the railway track south, passing by the Ghega Museum and the photo point of the viaduct. After a short walk in the forest, the tour leads back above the rail track and follows the trail southwards till reaching the Unterer Adlitzgraben and the next viaduct. The tour then leads eastwards, following the marked hiking trail towards the impressive 20-Schilling-Blick viewpoint. After a short break, the tour then detours by following the small hiking trail eastwards to the Doppelreiterkogel and its viewing platform. The tour then continues southwards into the village of Semmering. When reaching the train station, the tour follows the street upwards into the village of Semmering for a well-deserved lunch at one of the restaurants before returning to the train station of Semmering.

Tour Description

00:00	Start at the train station Breitenstein and cross the railway tracks using the tunnel. Then continue following the street through the village of Breitenstein downwards.
00:10	Either turn right and follow the steep hiking trail downwards or continue following the street downwards (easier).
00:20	At the crossing, turn right and follow the main street southwards.
00:25	At the crossing (before the Blunzenwirt, turn right and follow the street towards Kalte Rinne.
00:45	Walk through the Kalte Rinne viaduct and continue following the street for a few meters.
00:50	Turn sharp left and follow now the hiking trail upwards towards the Ghega Museum.
00:55	Bypass the Ghega Museum and continue following the marked hiking trail. Enjoy the amazing view back towards the Kalte Rinne viaduct in front of the impressive Pollereswand.
01:10	At the crossing, follow the upper street by keeping right.
01:15	At the crossing, keep left and continue following the marked hiking trail.
01:25	Enjoy the view from the rest area and then continue following the small hiking trail above the railway tracks.
02:10	At the crossing, keep left and follow the forest road downwards towards the main road.
02:15	Turn left into the main road and follow the road down and through the Adlitzgraben viaduct.
02:17	After the viaduct, keep right and follow the hiking trail eastwards up into the forest.
02:35	Bypass the golf area and the former fabric and then keep left, continue following the hiking trail towards 20 Schilling Blick.
02:40	Turn left into the street, follow it a few meters and then keep right.
02:55	Turn left into the hiking trail towards 20 Schilling Blick (see signposts).
03:05	Enjoy the view from 20 Schilling Blick (best enjoyed with a self-brought ).
03:40	Follow the hiking trail eastwards but stay on the lower one.
03:50	At the former hotel, keep left and continue following the hiking trail towards Doppelreiterwarte.
03:55	Climb up Doppelreiterwarte and enjoy the amazing view from the viewing platform. Then follow the trail back towards the former hotel.
04:05	Bypass the former hotel on its right hand-side by following the street southwards. Keep left and follow the street into the village of Semmering.
04:15	Follow the Schulweg which is part of the official Bahnwanderweg heading directly towards the train station in Semmering.
04:40	At the train station, follow the street up into the village of Semmering.
05:00	Turn left into the main road and follow it for a few meters.
05:10	Well deserved break at one of the restaurants in Semmering.
06:10	Continue followin ghe street eastwards and then keep left following the marked trail back to the train station.
06:35	Arrive at the train station Semmering, end of the tour.
