Promising alpine tour to the iconic Veliki vrh via the Hajnževo sedlo using the Via Ferrata (B) / climbing route (I)
The tour starts at the parking close to the Loiblpass (border between Austria and Slovenia) and first follows the hiking trail / forest street along the Mošenik river up to the Planini Korošica mountain hut. The route then follows a small hiking trail up to the Hajnževo sedlo / Hainschsattel saddle which is also the border between Austria and Slovenia. Following the trail southwards leads to the already visible and impressive north face of Veliki vrh / Hochturm. The ascent to the summit is done using first a via ferrata (B) whereas the second half is a well-marked and easy climbing route (UIAA I) with no artificial climbing aids. After enjoying the very impressive surround view, the tour follows the same trail back to the parking.
| 00:00 | Start at the parking south of Loiblpass (GPS: 46.427841, 14.272498) and follow the marked mountain road / trail eastwards towards Veliki vrh (see red signposts). |
| 00:10 | Cross the small river and continue following the marked mountain road / trail. |
| 00:20 | Stay on the new mountain road which now becomes steeper. |
| 01:30 | Turn right and follow the marked hiking trail northeastwards through the mountain pasture. |
| 01:35 | Well deserved break () at Dom na Planini Korošica. |
| 02:05 | Follow the marked trail eastwards through the amazing mountain pasture towards Hajnževo sedlo (see signposts at the hut). |
| 02:35 | At the crossing at Hajnževo sedlo (right at the border between Austria and Slovenia), turn right and follow the trail along the saddle southeastwards heading to the impressive north face of Veliki vrh. |
| 02:40 | Put on your Via Ferrata set and follow the Via Ferrata up towards Veliki vrh. |
| 03:40 | After mastering the lower part (Via Ferrata), continue following the marked climbing trail (UIAA I), first along the exposed ridge and then in easier terrain. |
| 04:10 | Enjoy the amazing surround view from Veliki vrh, obviously best enjoyed with a self-brought refreshment (). |
| 04:50 | Descent back using the same route as the ascent, first along the climbing trail and then the via ferrata back to the Hajnževo sedlo. |
| 06:10 | Put off your Via Ferrata set at Hajnževo sedlo, enjoy once again the amazing view and then descend back to Dom na Planini Korošica. |
| 06:45 | Well deserved break ( ) at Dom na Planini Korošica. |
| 07:15 | Follow the hiking trail and the mountain road back to the parking (same as used for the ascent). |
| 08:00 | Back at the parking, end of the tour. |
