Stage 3b and 4 of the Alpannonia® long distance trail from “Bernstein” towards “Schlag” (reverse direction)
The Alpannonia® long distance trail combines in up to 7 stages a tour from the eastern alps in Austria towards the “pannonian lowlands” in Hungary. The entire trail is 125 km long and 3.800 meters in ascent. It is normally done in 7 days, starting in Fischbach (AT) and ending in Köszeg (HU). For more information visit www.alpannonia.at. |
The tour starts at the castle of Bernstein and then follows the marked trail using streets, trails and paths westwards towards Schlag, passing by some impressive landmarks in this area. The tour first passes by the castle of Bernstein and then heads towards the mysterious Speckkammerl, telling the story of the witch of Kienberg. The tour then leads towards Gugelhupf, a unique viewpoint next to Redlschlag. After passing some impressive meadows and fields, the tour leads up to Hutwisch and its viewing platform that allows a promising surround view of the entire area, on clear days even till Slovenia. After getting some nice impressions of the area, the tour then leads towards Schlag passing by the nice castle Ziegersberg.

Comment: | I was brought by car to Bernstein and picked up at Schäffern. If done as part of the alpannonia long distance trail (reverse direction), it is recommended to stay overnight in Schlag and then continue the tour towards Mönichkirchen / Hochwechsel. If done in the forward direction, stay overnight in Schlag and then walk till Bernstein. |
