  • Probst S.: "GAMMA - A platform independent framework for reusable authentication, authorization, and auditing components.",
Dissertation zur Erlangung des akademischen Grades Doktor der technischen Wissenschaften, Linz, Oct. 2004.

... This thesis presents GAMMA, a platform and architecture neutral framework, that offers reusable authentication, authorization, and auditing mechanisms by providing declarative security mechanisms. Declarative security allows the decoupling of security logic completely from the application logic, allowing to write highly flexible, reusable but still security aware software components and applications. Furthermore, this concept is proven by presenting a reference implementation of this framework which offers several ready-to-use but still extensible authentication, authorization, and auditing mechanisms that can be transparently integrated into applications. ...

Proc. 30th EUROMICRO and DSD Symposium, Rennes, France, Sept. 2004.

Today, security is recognized as an absolute need in application development. Programming environments offer mechanisms and concepts allowing an easy integration of security mechanisms into the application. ... The goal of this work is to promote the usage of declarative security mechanisms which allow the decoupling of security logic completely from the application logic. Furthermore, the framework GAMMA is presented, that offers several declarative authentication, access control, and auditing mechansms that can be transparently integrated into software applicaitons.

  • Ziebermayer T., Probst S.: "Web Service Authorization Framework",
    Proc. ICWS04, San Diego, 2004.

Web services represent an important technology for distributed applications and will replace various other technologies for distributed application development soon. ... However, for authorization no appropriate solution is available and ready to use. ... Based on existing authorization solutions and the defined requirements, a Web service authorization framework is developed. We describe concepts and the design of the proposed framework and give an overview of selected implementation aspects (e.g. authorization data access, descriptive deployment). The framework emphasizes easy deployment of Web Service authorization and is ready to use. Practical experience using the framework concludes the paper.

Electronic Commerce Research, Kluwer Academic Publishers 4(1), pp 127-156, Jan. 2004.

E-commerce applications have diverse security requirements ranging from business-to-business over business-to-consumer to consumer-toconsumer types of applications. This range of requirements cannot be handled adequately by oné single security model although role-based access controls depict a promising fundament for generic high-level security. ... Therefore, we present a general-purpose software framework providing security mechanisms such as authentication, access controls, and auditing for Java software development. The framework is called GAMMA and offers multiple high-level security models that may even be used concurrently to cover such diverse security requirements as found within e-commerce environments.

Proc. 3rd Int. Conf. on Information Integration and Web-based Applications & Services (IIWAS), Linz, Sept. 10-12, 2001.

Modern application architectures require flexible and ready-to-use distributed authorization mechanisms. We thus compare existing solutions for distributed authorization such as Sesame, Adage, JSEF, Kava to our newly developed framework GAMMA. We then evaluate the systems according to several criteria, including interoperability, compatibility, architecture requirements, expressiveness, and capabilities in regard to authentication, access control, and auditing.

When I first saw this car at the Vienna Autoshow, I fell in love with it. Don't know why and what it is, but actually I really like this car. It is comfortable, easy to drive, it goes well, it has high clearance and thus bad roads are not an issue and it looks beautiful as well. And looking at the options, you do not feel like in a cheap car anymore (comes with seat heating, keyless entry/drive, automatic air-condition, blind spot assist, 360° surround camera system, full blown navigation system)... for around € 22.000!

Welcome to the class of super-sport cars! Working in an international organization entitles you for diplomatic car purchase. Originally, I wanted to have a total different car but then – by luck and talking at the right time to the right dealer – I was able to get the offer of my life: A brand-new Jaguar XK Dynamic R (unfortunately, this model was limited to the UK market but my dealer made it happen to get it compliant to the German / Austrian market (LHD, km/h, ...)). What can I say about it other than... the most amazing vehicle I ever drove!!!

My Volvo got old and required some repairs, thus I decided to go for another car for the winter season. This time it should be cheap but reliable, as well as convenient. At the end, I’ve decided for the cheapest car you can by: A Dacia Sandero. Believe it or not, the car surprised me a lot. It is convenient, it is cheap, it is actually good looking. Okay, for that price you need to be fair: the interior quality cannot be compared to a Volvo, the noise level is noticeable, but hey... you get a fully equipped car with a reasonable engine for less than € 13.000,-!

Well, the Pontiac Firebird is a great car but given the weight, it lacks a bit of power. If you’re in this scene, it has to be a V8! Thus, I’ve started looking for a V8 and finally found it, in the rare “GTA” edition. I immediately fell in love with that “Gunmetal-Gray” color and the 5.0 Litres V8 engine (yes, the GTA also came with the 5.0 litres engine!)

This was my first car. I got it for free but in a horrible condition. Actually I liked the model because it reminded me a bit on the 60’s Ford Mustangs. So my team and I started restoring the car which took us about 3 months. Sadly, the car was destroyed during a flood (3am while I was sleeping)...
